Poder asistir al NYFW ha sido uno de mis más grandes sueños desde que comencé este blog. Desde que instagram se volvió una ventana al mundo, ver a las fashion bloggers asistir a las semanas de la moda en Nueva York, Paris, Milan y otros lugares increíbles es inspiración total. Las pasarelas, los outfits, los eventos, los lugares, las personas y los momentos que viví, los estuve soñando por más de dos años y si les soy sincera, no me lo creí hasta que estuve allí, en el Brooklyn Bridge este pasado 7 de febrero. Después de más de 3 años sin visitar mi ciudad favorita en el mundo, tuve la oportunidad de volver para el NYFW FEBRUARY 2019. Pero así como les comparto este logro tan importante para mí, les contaré un lado de la historia que no fue nada bonito, y que después de pensarlo varias semanas, decidí compartirlo con ustedes para evitar que le pase a otro. Este no será un blog que trate solo de moda. En esta historia, les contaré experiencias buenas, experiencias no tan buenas y sobre todo experiencias que me enseñaron que NUESTRO TRABAJO VALE y que siempre hay alguien que está buscando lo que tú tienes para ofrecer.

Having the chance to assist to NYFW has been one of my biggest dreams since I started this blog. Since instagram became a window to the world, watching fashion bloggers attend fashion weeks in New York, Paris, Milan and other incredible locations was a total inspiration. The catwalks, the shows, the outfits, the events, the places, the people and the moments that I lived, I dreamed about them for more than two years and if I'm honest, I didn’t believe it until I was standing at the Brooklyn Bridge this past February 7th. After more than 3 years without visiting my favorite city in the world, I had the opportunity to return for the NYFW FEBRUARY 2019. However, just as I share this important achievement, I will also tell you one side of the story that was not pretty at all, and one I decided to talk about, after thinking about it for weeks, because I need to stop this from happening to others. This story is not only about fashion. Here, I will tell you about good experiences, not so good experiences and above all, experiences that taught me how much OUR WORK IS WORTH and that there is always someone looking for what you have to offer.

NYFW DAY 1:
llegamos a Nueva York a eso del medio día luego de haber tomado dos vuelos y haber salido de Houston a las 3:00am (se imaginarán lo cansados que estábamos, pero la emoción pudo más que el cansancio), así que decidimos dejar las maletas en el Hotel e irnos directo a caminar por el Brooklyn Bridge y tomarnos las primeras fotos del viaje. Al regresar, tuvimos un meet and greet con los otros bloggers que se estaban hospedando allí con la agencia que nos había contactado.

Let's start with the good side,
NYFW DAY 1:
We arrived in New York at noon after taking two flights and having left Houston by 3:00 am (you can imagine how tired we were, but we were even more excited) so we decided to leave our luggage at the Hotel and took a walk at the Brooklyn Bridge to take the first pictures of the trip. As the trip was made through an agency that contacted me, upon arrival at the Hotel, we had a meet and greet with the other bloggers who were staying there as well.
Unos tragos, brindis, entrevistas y nuevos amigos después, salimos corriendo al evento de @ateliercologne que fue en el Pent House de Ramscale Studios y la frase que se me ocurre para describirlos es "SO New York". El lugar del evento era soñado; varios ambientes con diferentes decoraciones según el aroma de las fragancias, Había desde una pared para colorear, hasta una Prize Box con mini perfumes. Un evento perfecto y de los más organizados a los que he asistido hasta ahora.

A few drinks, toasts, interviews and new friends later, we went to the @ateliercologne event that was at the Ramscale Studios Penthouse and the only phrase I can use to describe is "SO New York", The place was just a dream, there were several environments with different decorations according to each fragrance. A perfect event and one of the most organized ones that I have attended so far.
Obviamente, al salir no aguantábamos el hambre y cómo estábamos en la ciudad que nunca duerme, pedimos un taxi y cinco minutos después estábamos llegando a @eatalyflatiron, uno de mis restaurantes favoritos en New York y en el mundo. La verdad es que no es un restaurant, es un Mercado completo de productos importados de Italia que tiene más de cinco áreas en las que pruebas diferentes platos, fiambres, pastas, pescado y comida de mar, carnes, vinos, postres, helado y café. Es un pedacito de Italia en Nueva York y fue sin duda el mejor final para nuestro primer día.

Obviously, when we left we were so hungry we decided to grab a bite, and being in the city that never sleeps, we decided to call a taxi and five minutes later we were arriving at @eatalyflatiron, one of my favorite restaurants in New York and in the world. The truth is that it is not only a restaurant, but a also a whole market of imported products from Italy that has more than five areas in which you try different dishes such as cheese and olives, pastas, fish and seafood, meats, wines, dessert , ice cream and coffee. It's a piece of Italy in New York and it was without a doubt the best ending for our first day.
NYFW DAY 2:
El día dos fue intenso. Me desperté y me comencé a arreglar para una conferencia que teníamos con la agencia, en la que conocimos a varias celebridades y personas influyentes. Lo cierto es que ese día más allá de conocer a personas increíbles como Liberty Netushil @thelifeoflibs, cuyo mensaje fue más que inspirador, REAL., me di cuenta de dos cosas muy importantes que aplican para todo en la vida: nunca asumas nada de nadie y cuando sientes que estás a punto de rendirte, generalmente es cuando estás más cerca de lograrlo. Resulta que pasaron muchos meses luego de que inicié con mi cuenta para darme cuenta de lo VALIOSO que era mi trabajo y mi tiempo, de que el contenido que creaba era BUENO y que cada minuto que pasaba ideando cada detalle de cada foto VALÍA MUCHO y les cuento esto para que POR FAVOR no esperen tanto tiempo como yo para valorar su trabajo. En esa conferencia, si bien habían personas que tenían más de 100k también habían algunos que tenían 5k y todos monetizaron sus cuentas desde el inicio. Al ser esto un medio tan nuevo, es nuestro deber hacerles entender a las personas, marcas y empresas que detrás de cada POST que hacemos hay horas de trabajo, ideas y dedicación y que eso tiene un valor. Por otro lado, recuerda que de diez oportunidades que se presentan 9 son sólo para asistir y 1 es la que te abre una nueva puerta. No te canses de intentarlo, porque alguien siempre está buscando lo que tu tienes para ofrecer, tu único deber es no cansarte de hacer bien tu trabajo y mostrarlo hasta que te encuentren.

NYFW DAY 2:
Day 2 was intense, I woke up and started getting ready for a conference we had with the agency, in which we met a few celebrities and influential people. The truth is, that day beyond meeting incredible people, like Liberty Netushil @thelifeoflibs whose message more than inspiring was REAL, I learned about two very important things that apply to everything in life: never assume anything from anyone and when you feel like you’re about to quit, it’s usually when you are one step away from your goal. It turns out, that I took too long to VALUE my work and time, to realize that the content I've created was GOOD and that every minute I spent creating every detail behind every picture had its worth, and I’m telling you this to ask you not to wait as long as I did to value your work, PLEASE. In that conference, although there were people who had more than 100k there were also some who had 5k and all of them monetized their accounts from the beginning. Since this is such a new platform and profession, it is our duty to make people, brands and companies understand that behind every POST on our feed, there are hours of work, ideas and dedication and that has a value. On the other hand, remember that from ten opportunities that you get 9 are only to show up and only 1 opens a new door. Do not get tired of trying, because someone is always looking for what you have to offer, your only job is not to give up and show your work until they find you.
Ese día terminó con una sesión de fotos increíble con una fotógrafa venezolana que no sólo toma fotos geniales sino que además es un amor de persona, Miler @milerahphoto. Tomé mis primeras fotos con mucho frío y un outfit increíble de @marcelabeltranoficial y accesorios de @susanavegajewelry en las calles de Nueva York, fue una experiencia que sueño con repetir todos los días.

That day ended with an incredible photoshoot with a Venezuelan photographer Miler @milerahphoto. I took my first pictures on the streets of New York, while freezing and wearing an incredible outfit designed by @marcelabeltranoficial and accessories by @susanavegajewelry. It was an experience that I dream of repeating every day.
NYFW DAY 3:
El mejor día del viaje y uno de los mejores de mi vida hasta ahora. En un sólo día usé más de 4 outfits, me tomé una foto encima de un taxi, asistí a dos fashion shows y tuve un photoshoot con un diseñador super reconocido en New York y México @jorgecontrerasmexico.

The best day of the trip and one of the best in my life so far. In a single day I used more than 4 outfits, took a photo on top of a taxi, attended two fashion shows and had a photoshoot with a super recognized designer in New York and Mexico @jorgecontrerasmexico.
Ese día me tocó hacer de todo. Camino a PIER 59, me vestí en un taxi con el segundo outfit del día de @marcelabeltranoficial y un tocado soñado y aretes de @susanavegajewelry, cuando llegamos para el fashion show de @CUSTOBARCELONA , pensé que entraría sola porque no tenía plus one pero cuando el encargado de admisión nos vio despedirnos a Claudio y a mi, me miró y literal nos dijo: En esta vida todo primero se pregunta! y nos dejó pasar a los dos al show. 20 minutos de increíbles colores, texturas y prints después, salimos corriendo de vuelta al estudio para tomar algunas fotos con Sergio @cuentameoficial vistiendo uno de los diseños más espectaculares que he usado por @jorgecontrerasmexico. Les juro que me tomó 28 min llegar, cambiarme, probarme el vestido, tomar las fotos, cambiarme de nuevo y tomar un taxi para regresar a PIER 59 y asistir a THE FLYING SOLO EVENT. Todavía no sé como lo logramos, pero llegamos justo a tiempo y este sin duda fue mi evento favorito. The FLYING SOLO EVENT, es un fashion show super importante dentro del NYFW; reúne a mas de 60 diseñadores emergentes y muestra 400 diseños en total, y el concepto, las texturas, los diseños, los colores, las formas fueron SOÑADOS.

Being a New Yorker for a day we had to run from one place to another but we managed to do everything. Changing in a taxi into the second outfit of the day of @marcelabeltranoficial with a headband and earrings from another world by @susanavegajewelry was one of the craziest thing I've done so far but I guess I didn't have any other option. When we arrived at PIER 59 for the @CUSTOBARCELONA fashion show, I thought that I would enter alone because I did not have plus one but when the manager saw me saying goodbye to Claudio, he looked at me and literally told us: In this life you have to ask everything first! and he let us enter to the show. 20 minutes of incredible colors, textures and prints later, we ran back to the showroom to take some pictures with Sergio @cuentameoficial wearing one of the most spectacular designs I have ever worn by @Jorgecontrerasmexico. I swear it took me 28 minutes to get there, change, try on the dress, take the pictures, change again and take a taxi to return to PIER 59 for THE FLYING ONLY EVENT, I still do not know how we did it, but we arrived just in time and this was definitely my favorite show. The FLYING SOLO EVENT, is a very important fashion show in the NYFW; gathers more than 60 emerging designers and shows 400 designs in total, and the concept, textures, designs, colors, and shapes were a DREAM.
Después de ese maratón nos tocaba regresar para cambiarnos para una noche de tragos con la agencia y antes de eso tomar otras fotos con un vestido de @divinebysjboutique, pero primero necesitábamos comer algo y decimos hacer un stop en otro de mis restaurants favoritos en NY y el que más visité cuando tuve la oportunidad de vivir allí, @roomservice. Una de las mejores fusiones de comida Thai y mediterránea que he probado y un lugar que no se van a arrepentir de visitar. Llegamos al Flatiron Building dos horas después pero hacía tanto frío que decidimos tomar las fotos en @eatalyflatiron. Unas cuantas fotos tomadas por @milerahphoto, dos helados y mucho frío después, llegamos de nuevo al hotel a tomarnos unos tragos con los otros bloggers y luego estábamos tan agotados que pedimos delivery de sushi a la habitación y sinceramente, no recuerdo que pasó después.

After that marathon, we had to return to change our clothes for a cocktail night with the agency and before that take other pictures with a dress by @divinebysjboutique, but first we needed to eat something and we decided to stop at another of my favorite restaurants in NY and the one I visited the most when I had the opportunity to live there, @roomservice. One of the best fusions of Thai and Mediterranean food that I have ever tried and a place that you will not regret visiting. We arrived at the Flatiron Building two hours later but it was so cold that we decided to take the pictures at @eatalyflatiron. A few photos taken by @milerahphoto, two ice creams and a lot of cold afterwards, we came back to the hotel to have a few drinks with the other bloggers and then we were so exhausted we ordered sushi delivery to our room and honestly, I do not remember what happened next.
NYFW DAY 4:
Cerramos con el fashion show de la agencia en PIER 59 en el cual tuve la oportunidad de acceder al backstage, y para el cuarto día usé un diseño atrevido pero que me enamoró de una diseñadora venezolana que está comenzando acá en Houston pero que tiene muchísimo talento. Mishell @mishellchayeb.a, confeccionó el top, la falda y cosió cada uno de los pétalos del top a mano.

NYFW DAY 4: We ended the week with the fashion show of the agency at PIER 59 in which I had the opportunity to access backstage and I wore a bold and unique design by a Venezuelan designer who is starting here in Houston but who has a lots of talent. Mishell @ mishellchayeb.a, made the top, the skirt and sewed each of the petals of the top by hand.
Mi parte favorita de ese fashion show fue sin duda la colección de Jorge Contreras @jorgecontrerasmexico con el que tuve la oportunidad de compartir y hacer fotos el día anterior. Luego de que culminara ese show, regresamos al hotel para dormir un rato.

My favorite part of that fashion show was undoubtedly the Jorge Contreras @jorgecontrerasmexico collection with which I had the opportunity to share and take pictures the day before. After that show ended, we returned to the hotel to take a nap.
Dos horas después y un poco más descansados, decidimos salir a disfrutar nuestra última noche, tomar las últimas fotos e ir a caminar por TIMES SQUARE. Paseando nos encontramos a unas de las bloggers del grupo y decidimos ir a tomarnos un trago. Y allí es que comienza la parte no tan buena de nuestra historia...

Two hours later and a little more rested, we decided to go out and enjoy our last day in the city, take the last pictures and go for a walk at TIMES SQUARE. While walking, we met with some of the bloggers and decided to go for a drink and There's where the not so good part of our story begins...
Para hacerles el cuento corto, la agencia con la que más de 22 bloggers decidimos asistir a este NYFW nos ofreció un paquete que incluía supuestamente estadía, comida, eventos , transporte y muchas más cosas que no fueron cumplidas durante los cuatro días. Conversando esa noche, nos dimos cuenta de que a todos nos habían cobrado tarifas distintas, enviado diferentes paquetes y diferentes publicidades. Si pensabas que esto era grave, la cosa no termina allí. Por una de mis compañeras, me enteré que la agencia había usado mi pagina y mi cuenta para persuadir a otros diseñadores a participaran en su show. Al día siguiente después de hacer el checkout nos enteramos que uno de los representantes de la agencia que se hospedó en el mismo hotel con nosotros, no había pagado ninguna de las habitaciones y poco tiempo después de aterrizar en Houston, nos cargaron nuevamente el monto de las habitaciones a la tarjeta de crédito. Fueron dos días de muchas llamadas y reclamos por parte de todos y diez días después gracias a dios a muchos nos han reembolsado los montos. Les comparto esto porque considero con todo lo que me tocó vivir que es muy importante que tomemos consciencia del valor de nuestro trabajo. Estando en Nueva York me di cuenta, que todo se puede lograr si preguntas y no te quedas con la primera opción que te ofrecen. Que con todo mi trabajo, no era necesario ir a través de una agencia o pagando algo, porque preguntando me di cuenta de todas las opciones que tenía para trabajar por intercambio, con marcas, servicio y hoteles. El mundo de las redes sociales es un mundo que sigue siendo tan nuevo, que todos los días aprendemos algo acerca de cómo funciona y de lo que somos capaces de lograr si aprendemos a valorar nuestro tiempo y nuestro trabajo. Hace algunos días leí que si tienes talento, lo que tienes que hacer es demostrarlo una y otra vez y allí, es cuando las oportunidades te encuentran. Hoy estoy convencida de que tanto yo como mis otros colegas aprendimos que esto es cierto y no vamos a parar de hacer lo que amamos con toda la dedicación posible, pero esta vez dándole el valor que merece y así irnos abriendo más puertas que nos permitan crecer y les aconsejo de corazón que lo hagan ustedes también porque esta enseñanza aplica para todo..

To make this story short, the agency with which more than 22 bloggers decided to attend this NYFW offered us a package that supposedly included the stay, food, events, transportation and many other things that were not delivered during the four days. Talking that night, we realized that everyone were charged different rates, sent different packages and different ads. If you thought that this was serious, the thing does not end there. By one of my colleagues, I found out that the agency had used my page and my account to persuade other designers to participate in their show. The next day after checkout we learned that one of the representatives of the agency that stayed at the same hotel with us, had not paid any of the rooms and shortly after landing in Houston, we were charged again the amount of the rooms to the credit card. Many days of calls and claims later, thanks God many of us have been reimbursed. I share this with you because I consider with everything I had to live that it is very important that we become aware of the value of our work. Being in New York I realized that everything can be achieved if you ask and if you do not say yes to the first option they offer you. I also realized that with all the work I’ve done so far, it was not necessary to go through an agency or paying something, because by asking I realized all the options I had to collab with brands, services and hotels. The world of social networks is still so new, that every day we learn something about how it works and what we are capable of achieving if we learn to value our time and our work. A few days ago I read that if you have talent, what you have to do is prove it again and again and there, is when the opportunities will find you. Today I am convinced that my collages and me are sure this is true and after all we learned we won't stop doing what we love with all the dedication we put to it, but this time we will value our work and that way we will continue opening more and more doors that allow us to grow and I advise you with all of my heart you do the same, because this lesson applies to everything in life. .
